Sitting on the doorstep,
my mother saw the planes in the sky.
She had some sweet dreams
To be inside one of them.
I described the journey,
she listened with amazement.
The strange things inside the plane,
Imagining them vividly,
she drifted off like a silent tear
To the shores that time has thrown
My mother never travelled far
even in trains.
She couldn’t link the ladder
From the earth to sky.
In the movies and toy shops,
My children see the bullock carts.
They eagerly desire to ride.
They question excitedly about it
Astonishingly watches the driver
Riding the big wheeled cart
And even bigger bulls.
They listen closely
To the bells around the bulls’ necks.
They dream of riding in the carts,
Whilst flying across continents.
They can’t link the ladder
From the sky to earth.
I can buy my children a toy of bullock cart
But I can’t link the ladder
To my mother to her flight.
