Walking on the edge of a river-16

English Translation – Swathi Sreepada

Telugu original written by – Dr.C.Bhavani Devi

16. A river means a stream

A river means a stream only
Anywhere that sounds like this only
Scrubbing the stones and tuning them
To understand the singing music of the river
That sort of wetness must be there

When standing on the shore of Dort moor river
All the trees guarding the bund
Asked the welfare of flowing rivers (Ganga ,Yamuna)
The breeze of here surrounding me
Wanted to come with me

All the seasons that never fell the leaves
Dreaming the spring opening their eyes
Wide-ranging anonymous flowers
Thanking the river
Drizzling on the feet of water

In the nature that learned purity
Every power is that calm
But for the man …
With uncomprehensive wretchedness
Cutting the branch
On which he perches

When the calm peaceful riverbeds are watched
From the far of shores
I brought with me the inspiration and consolation
Given by the water
As a cleaning of rivers in my country
