Secondary level preparation strategies for Science

-J.P.Bharathi

Science is not in the laboratory experiments; they are in the human surroundings. If the student is passionately made aware of this, he will educate the entire family and make them more responsible.

It is not necessary to initiate science only with laboratory experiments. Laboratory experiments should be directed towards living sciences and environ-mental sciences and social sciences. This can lead to a student becoming a responsible citizen. Protecting nature is a common responsibility of all. If this learning is more stressed, we can make a difference in the society. We can make every individual child and student liable for their doings. A student should be taught what happens if the dirt is stinking on the roads. He should be taught what the importance of hygiene is. Why a human body should kept clean. What is the role of pesticides; grow more, fertilizers in the agricultural farming. How much should be used for increasing the yield in the crops. What is the damage when these are used in excess quantities? If these are made clear there will be proper education which can throw away all kinds of cheating, myths and superstitions from the society. The approach towards science learning should be transformed in such a way, that by the end of secondary school education, the society can assure a responsible and a conscious citizen.

Also science should be taught in such a way that the child from secondary level understands the importance of exercises, body posture, and how to remain active and keep the body fit and healthy. A student should be given such knowledge at the school level which will help him in various ways, such as,

  • A student should be taught how to appreciate and preserve the environment
  • He should be given knowledge of scientific temperament to use in real life situations
  • Should be able to use his logical thinking to convince people to come out of myths and superstitions
  • Help in making a visible and significant difference with his knowledge in the society.
